Important 2020-21 Information

Free Breakfast and Lunch through the School Year

The USDA approved FREE meals to all children ages 0-18 through September 30, 2021*.

What does this mean for my student(s)?

Whether your student will be attending a school site, or the Kenowa Hills Online Learning Academy (KHOLA), they will have access to a FREE breakfast and lunch each day we are in session.

KH Friday Take-Home Kits: May & June

    Face to Face Students

    As all students return to daily in-person instruction, we return to our regularly scheduled menus.

    We will also continue to offer a Take-Home Meal Kit to all daily in-person students. These kits will contain 1 breakfast and 1 lunch, and will be offered on Friday’s. We will begin offering these 1-day meal kits on Friday, January 22nd.

    ***As a reminder, High School and Pathways students returning to in person instruction will no longer qualify for our weekly Meal Kits.***

    We are excited to get back to our regularly scheduled menus and to feeding your students each day. Don't forget, ALL meals are FREE to ALL STUDENTS!

    Kenowa Hills Online Learning Academy Students

    Meal kit’s will continue to be available for KHOLA students on a weekly basis. Please continue to place your pre orders by Friday at 12:00 PM to ensure we have enough for your family during distribution.

    Orders are due by 12:00 PM on Friday, the week before the scheduled meal pickup time. Meal Kit pick up will be Wednesday’s from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM at the Field House entrance of the High School.

    As a reminder:

    • Pick ups will be Wednesdays from 12:00-1:00 PM at the Field House entrance of the High School
    • Meal kits contain 6 breakfasts and 6 lunches
    • Meals kits are provided at NO COST
    • You are able to order additional boxes for children ages 0-18 in your family that are not enrolled in KHOLA.
    • Kenowa students enrolled in Face-to-Face learning are not eligible for Meal Kits
    • The menu for the week is listed on the Order Form. Menu items are subject to change based on availability, but we will do everything we can to provide what is listed each week.

    What will the free breakfast and lunch meals contain?

    • Breakfast: A complete meal at breakfast will have an entrée, 2 servings of Fruit and a Milk. Students will need to take at least 1 fruit for the meal to be considered complete.
    • Lunch: A complete meal at lunch will include an entrée, 2 servings of Vegetables, 1 Serving of Fruit, and a Milk. Students will need to take at least 1 fruit or vegetable for the meal to be considered complete.

    I have already deposited money into my students account. Now what?

    Free meals for all students is currently scheduled through September 30, 2021. Any money deposited into your students account will remain in their account, and will be available should anything change or for the 2021-22 school year.

    Will you be offering A la Carte items for purchase?

    Not at this time. We would like to spend some time adjusting to our new meal service models and then look at how we can best accommodate a la carte purchases.

    *Due to the recent USDA approval of free meals to all students ages 0-18, meal kits are also available for children who are not currently enrolled in KHPS or other programs that are providing free meals.     Additional Information for Families

    Free and Reduced Meal Benefits

    Families must reapply every year for Free and Reduced Meal Benefits. Meal benefits from the current year will expire on October 5, 2021. Families impacted by the pandemic are encouraged to apply as you may be eligible for benefits. Please fill out your application as soon as possible to ensure your students benefits are ready for the upcoming school year.

    Should I still complete a Free and Reduced Meal Benefits Application while lunches are free? Yes!

    • The USDA has approved free lunches through September 30, 2021. However, we would like all families to be prepared for when the program ends.
    • Families must fill out a new application every year. If you have not completed one for the 2021-22 school year, please do so as soon as possible. You can apply online through this link, and paper applications are available at each site.
    • Although meals are currently free to all students ages 0-18 it is incredibly important that you submit your application each year!

    Double Up Food Bucks

    Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) is a program that partners with SNAP to provide FREE Michigan Fruits and Vegetables to Bridge Card users at participating markets. Please see the information below about this wonderful program.

    As we transition into this new school year, please know that Kenowa Hills Food and Nutrition Services is here and available to your families, whatever you may need. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I am so happy to have joined the Knights and look forward to the upcoming school year!


    Your child’s health is extremely important to us. If your child has a food allergy, we will provide substitutions with a written order from a medical authority. Please contact Food Service at 784-0175.
